04/09/2009 – When it comes to three-bay NAS units, the N3200PRO is a strong choice thanks to its superior performance, features, and design. Boot Daily recently took a close look at the N3200PRO and put it through the ringer. At the end of it all, they liked it so much, that they decided to give it a final score of 9 out of 10 and their coveted Boot Worthy Award!
The N3200PRO looks great on the outside: "It's manufactured out of an aluminum enclosure with a slick LCD display, a USB2.0 port, eSATA port, LAN/WAN ports, status lights and navigation buttons. It's easily one of the best-looking NAS units I've seen to date. Its USB port can be used to setup a USB dongle which allows the use of a wireless remote control."
But on the inside, it's easy to see that the N3200PRO is also fully equipped: "Under the hood of this unit is really a self-contained PC that uses an AMD CPU, its own RAM and an embedded operating system which is quite impressive when you consider the engineering it takes to make all that stuff work on concert. What really sets apart this unit, however, is the rockin' software that lets you easily setup an iTunes-server – to stream your music to any PC on the network – an FTP server, photo server and web surveillance. All these tools help provide the end-user with the most flexibility possible in using a NAS unit."
Performance was strong as well: "The N3200PRO turns in very respectable times for its data transfer rates – however- you should bear in mind that transferring a single, large, file will always yield better results than sending the same amount of data (in this case, 1GB) broken up into a bunch of smaller files."
The Boot Daily conclusion: "Honestly, for the price, I couldn't be happier with the way the N3200PRO turned out – it offers excellent performance, easy to use software, a good deal of expandability and at a price point which makes it a very attractive option for both the home-power-user and small business owner looking for a great NAS solution"
Final Score: 9/10
