12/18/2013-Media from all across the world have been reviewing the Thecus® N2520 and have been delighted with it. The South African Magazine Gladget agrees with this verdict.
Gladget asks at the beginning of their review of the 2-bay NAS why would people need a NAS at home as it used to be a device that is only found in offices. Gladget is answering this question themselves: A modern home usually has multiple devices connected to the local network and files are often being shared among them. “Thecus understands that and have produced a device perfectly suited for the home environment.” However, in the same breath they also acknowledge that the N2520 can be used in a small office environment.
With its 2 bays for HDDs, 1.2 GHz Intel® Atom™ SoC processor and supported by 1GB RAM, it packs enough performance to stand its ground in a small or home business environment. Once that business is done for a day, the Thecus® N2520 will show its other strength: its multimedia capabilities.
“As a media server, particularly, this device is awesome. It even has an HDMI output … You can connect the N2520 directly to your TV (or media viewing device of your choice) and play a variety of media types. It's almost like having a media player and NAS in one.”
Other features include upload, download and streaming from Android and iOS smart devices. This is being done through the free T-OnTheGo® mobile app. Even if certain family members would start to hoard big parts of the available disk space, quota limitation can be activated.
Gladget's editor sums up their review with: “As far as personal ‘cloud' storage solutions go, the N2520 from Thecus is a fantastic option. It's numerous added extras (including anti-virus software and much much more) make it an excellent choice for those wanting a little more out of their network.”
Their final verdict lists the following points as pros:
Excellent home NAS solution
Direct TV connection
With a total score of 96 (out of 100), the Thecus® received the Gladget's Gold Award.
