11/29/2013-Since the Thecus® N2520's was released, the world of domestic NAS has never been the same. Combining elegance, performance, and serviceability, this 2-bay is one safe bet for storing your data at home. Another testament of this can be found this time in Hungary, with the renowned IT online media iPon.
Equipped with an Intel® Atom™ SoC CE5315 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, the N2520 packs a lot of power. But it was not the inside that first amazed iPon: “The back panel contains all connectors that you may need. These include a Gigabit Ethernet port, two USB 2.0 ports, an AC adapter connector, an HDMI video output, and an audio port. The latter two, a few years ago, were quite unusual in the NAS market, but now there are a number of models which can be found with such connections.” By the way, did you know that the HDMI output was first introduced on a NAS device by Thecus® in 2012? That's right, you can add innovative to the list of Thecus's qualities.
Not overlooking the multimedia capabilities of the Thecus® N2520, iPon also had a close look at XBMC, the standard media player used while on Local Display mode (i.e. when you have a TV connected directly to NAS via HDMI). Through Local Display, you can enjoy the direct playback ability of the N2520 with your movies, music and photos, without the need for a computer or set top media player. Additionally, the N2520 supports DLNA streaming via Plex Media and can also stream data to your mobile device with the T-OnTheGo™ app and free DDNS support.
Thanks to the iPon team for this review!
