11/25/2013-Coming out earlier this year and costing only £250, the Thecus® N2560's style that “fits in perfect with home users” and “solid performance” have earned it positive reviews from across the world. Adding their name to this impressive list today is Vortez.
With an aesthetic perfect for the home, the N2560 class and elegance impressed the Vortez team - with the inclusion of a front-facing USB 3.0 port proving an added bonus. With very capable components (a 1.6GHz Intel® Atom™ SoC and 2GB DDR3 RAM) and simplified drive installation (no tools required), this latest addition to the Intelligent NAS line has a lot to live up to.
A very capable unit
To be the perfect home NAS, the N2560 also required a simple setup. With this in mind, Thecus® developed an online installation process for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS, that, once initialized, takes less than 5 minutes to complete. To help more novice users, a RAID system can also be automatically configured during this process.
Taking a look at the N2560's features, Vortez found the native OS (ThecusOS™ 6) to be an “all-encompassing” piece of software with “plenty of features and uses”). A video showing the operating system's options and features was also made, along with another clip demonstrating T-OnTheGo (for Android and iOS). This second piece of software allows users to browse files and folders stored on their NAS, stream videos, and also backup files from their mobile device to their NAS from anywhere around the world.
When it came down to the numbers, the N2560 was not found to be lacking. Using a six file, 3.2GB transfer to and from the NAS, Vortez ranked the N2560 second out of a group of twelve NAS. In both cases, it only lost out to units that were no more than 4% faster and cost over 30% more! Thanks to performance like this and the features mentioned above, the Thecus® N2560 proudly walked away at the end of the review with a silver medal.
Thanks to David and the rest of the Vortez team for the review!
