07/19/2013- IT has been over a year now that the Thecus® N5550 has been released to the public and we can, without a doubt, say that it is still the best option available on the market when it comes to 5-bay NAS systems today. This time, the experienced tester zzGeek with the French online media Zebulon.fr tested the Intel® Atom™ based NAS from Thecus®. The results were published recently online: “As usual, Thecus offers us a quality device that is very well designed and robust, and its performance during file transfers is quite remarkable. It ranks among the fastest 5-bay NAS we've tested, surpassing even its little brother the 4-bay N4800 in raw performance.”
- The power of the appliance: processor, memory
- Network performance
- The autonomous Mediacenter part
- The quietness of the device
- The housing and drawers design
- Ease of installation and updates
- The amount of additional modules (Thecus plus 3rd party)
- The price
One aspect tested by Zebulon was of course the performances of the Thecus® N5550. Equipped with an Intel® Atom™ processor and 2GB of RAM, this 5-bay NAS is sure to provide what's needed by home users, SOHOs and SMBs alike. “In fact, for writing speed, we got a record transfer rate of 117.5 MB/s, with a stabilized rate at 120.6 MB/s for a few seconds and a processor occupancy rate of 75% to 90%. For reading speed, that is with serenity that the N5550 displayed a very constant rate of 112.3 MB/s, the CPU occupancy rate not exceeding 25%.”
The Thecus® N5550 is a 5-bay NAS that has a lot to offer. Both from Thecus® and from the forum community, a large array of modules is offered to expand the functions of this device. And with performance as shown by Zebulon, the user can rest assured that the N5550 won't leave them hanging.
