05/16/2013 – The Thecus® N5550 continues to take the lead in the 5-bay NAS sector. With its innovative hardware such as Intel® Atom™ dual-core processor and 2GB of DDR3 RAM, the Thecus® N5550 is able to keep up with data backup even while processing HD media playback. Other highlights include link aggregation, real-time remote replication, McAfee antivirus and USB 3.0 for superfast transfers. The front panel has a LCM screen conveniently located towards the bottom for user to monitor status.
For those who handle sensitive data, advanced RAID functions could be implemented. With the ability to set up five hard drive disks, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD are available with hot-swap supported.
Vortez media in UK summarizes their experience while testing the Thecus® N5550, “The N5550 is versatile and can be used for many things such as CCTV systems, data storage, multiple RAID volumes, and remote back-ups and even down to a standard file sharing network storage device. With the amount of options available and taking the price into consideration, if you are looking for a 5 bay NAS at a very competitive price then the Thecus N5550 might just be the ticket! We feel the Thecus N5550 proudly deserves our gold award and wasn't far off from a platinum, great job Thecus!”
Overall, the Thecus® N5550 is affordable, supports up of 20TB of storage capacity with the use of 4TB HDD and offers a never ending list of features. One thing to point out is that while Vortez implemented RAID on the Thecus® N5550, there were absolutely no problems. “With the ability to quickly build RAID configurations after a few clicks is a fantastic and the process seemed trouble free.”
