“Thecus N5550's responsiveness to be excellent and its Web interface was also quick”
Bookmark and Share

04/24/2013 – PC World of AU reviews the N5550 NAS and illustrates that it's full of features and has the capability to meet standards of many SMBs. The 5-bay N5550 boasts an Intel® Atom™ dual-core processor along with 2GB of RAM for quick response times. Some hardware highlights include HDMI for multimedia playback, USB 3.0, and eSATA. Other important features include McAfee antivirus, link aggregation, Data Guard backup solution, and AES 256bit RAID volume encryption.

Pros

  • Five drive bays
  • Well priced
  • Stacks of features to play with

Besides the standard data storage purposes, the Thecus® N5550 has rich features. PC World elaborates, “It can perform a large range of tasks apart from simply storing and sharing data from multiple users and computers on a network, and that includes an ability to stream content to iTunes and DLNA devices, as well as synchronize with Dropbox via an add-in module.”

The Thecus® N5550 is the ultimate solution for SMBs who seek up to 20TB of storage capacity, who want a laundry list of features to choose from but don't want to break the bank. Offered at a competitive price, the Thecus® N5550 is a steal.

Software

PC World touches on the ThecusOS 5.0 software as well. It is quick to respond to commands and offers a great standard of features and also allows the addition of “modules” to the list. They say, “Overall, we found the Thecus N5550's responsiveness to be excellent and its Web interface was also quick to respond to our commands.”

Bottom line

PC World closes with, “There is plenty to like about the Thecus N5550. It has five drive bays yet it doesn't cost the Earth, and it can be almost endlessly configured via extra modules from Thecus and third parties.” Overall, the Thecus® N5550 has plenty to offer than just the enormous 20TB of storage space, ultimate performance and variety at a competitive price.
