02/04/2013 – The Intel® Atom™ equipped 5-bay NAS N5550 is built to made heads turn and impress wherever it goes. This time, the Danish media HwT.dk got their hands on the Thecus® NAS and tested it on every aspect. “The Thecus N5550 is a great NAS with space for 5 hard drives and lots of options and features. It is powerful, and hence addresses itself to small or medium-sized enterprises or for the demanding/judicious home user.” As a result to this, the N5550 walked out with the “Product of the Year” award.
Looking at the design, the operations and the performance of the N5550, here are a few comments by HwT.dk from their review: “There is one USB3.0 port located on the front panel which make USB Copy painless. You throw a USB Flash drive in one of the ports (there are 2 in the back) and select USB copy from the menu, confirm and then copy the files in the selected folder. All this can be controlled via the buttons and LCD screen on the front of the device, a very handy feature.”
“Although I was not familiar with Thecus before, I am surprised at how well their GUI works. It is simple, and quick to learn, and very helpfull when venturing into something you may not be fully in control of.”
And for their conclusion: “A powerful NAS, which really surprised me in both ways. Besides a good simple web interface with many useful features, makes the N5550 quite reasonable. The NAS could cover the needs of many different people, and even an inexperienced NAS explorer shall not be holding back. It will probably be primarily for small businesses or households with a greater need for security/space.”
