11/22/2012 – The Norwegian IT professional Hardware.no had once again a Thecus® NAS between their hands for testing purposes. But this time, the N4800 was called on duty to show off what Thecus®' latest technology brings to the NAS industry. And deliver it did, good performance, impressive material and extra features makes this NAS a unique one. With all that said, Hardware.no gave the N4800 a great and complete review and the “Recommended” award.
Extra security with Mini-UPS
Testing the device in both RAID 0 and RAID 5 while being directly connected to the client, Hardware.no was impressed with what the N4800 had to offer to SMBs and SOHOs. Using the Intel® NASPT benchmark program, the N4800 achieved and impressive reading score of 102,8 MB/s and a writing score of 111,4 MB/s, thanks to its Intel® Atom™ processor and its 2GB or RAM.
Quiet and Mini-UPS
Two special features of the N4800 are the fanless motherboard and the built-in Mini-UPS. Intel's Atom™ processor has the particularity to not needing a fan to cool itself and keep it under normal working temperature. This greatly affects the power consumption and the noise coming out of the NAS. The Mini-UPS is, still to this day, an unmatched feature in the NAS industry. Providing the users with enough power to finish the current transfers and shut down the NAS properly, the Mini-UPS gives the users another layer of security that keeps their data safer than ever.
The HDMI output was first introduce on a NAS system by Thecus® and here receives good comments from Hardware.no. Talking about the HDMI and VGA output, here is what they had to say: “Among the many modules that provide additional functionality to the N4800 is the "Local Display module,"... This means you can use the display output to connect a monitor directly to the NAS, so you are not dependent on using another computer on the network to manage the interface. But the real fun is only when you combine this module with a third-party module, because you can actually use the entire unit as a kind of media center or living room PC. The Atom processor is powerful enough to run HD video in 1080p…”
Once again the great design and innovations brought by Thecus sees some great results with yet another good review. Hardware.no gave the “Recommanded” label to the N4800 for its outstanding performance, its quietness, its unique innovations like the Mini-UPS and the HDMI output.
