08/27/2012 – ByTheWay.gr is one of the biggest IT website in Greece and when it comes to testing material and especially NAS, they leave nothing out. After taking apart, looking at every aspect and heavily testing the 5-bay NAS, ByTheWay.gr gave the N5550 the “Editor's Choice” award.
“This new NAS is equipped with a plethora of new features: Link Aggregation, LCM display, USB 3.0, multifunctional RAID and so on. These impressive new technologies from Thecus have been used for only one purpose: to improve the user experience and satisfaction.”
The N5550 holds an impressive resume when it comes to material. Quiet, powerful and energy efficient Intel® Atom™ processor, plenty of RAM with 2GB of DDR3, superfast USB 3.0 port, HDMI output to eliminate the need of a computer and display your multimedia files directly on your HDTV, and the list goes on. “The Intel Atom processor is designed to operate without fans. This will dramatically reduce the noise of the NAS and power consumption. Associated with a large amount of DDR3 of 2GB, the Intel Atom Processor will offer much better performance.”
Software and Support
“The functional Thecus is very stable, fast and reliable. During the tests we never experienced any problems or sticking, even when pushing the NAS (and believe me we pushed it a lot). This is particularly important in business environments where stability is everything. Finally, Thecus offers great support for all its products and has a very active forum where multiple users have great experience and shares their knowledge generously.”
“It is fast, customizable, flexible, relatively quiet and works flawlessly. In short, it overrides any home user network and has enough power and capabilities to support with great comfort a small business (up to 10-15 terminals) with needs for file sharing and backup. Of course it can be used as a residential multimedia server, no arguments here. But surely the big advantage against the competition is the price…no opponent can compete in a matter of cost to performance.”
