03/18/2008 – When it comes to NAS devices, SOHO users are looking for one that can not only reliably store and share data, but can also offer features that are well suited for home use, such as media streaming, printer serving, and download management. Fortunately for them, Thecus has listened and created just such a device: the N4100+, powered by Intel® 80219 CPU for exceptional data-processing capabilities. The editors at IXBT.com recently took the N4100+ for a test drive and were mighty impressed with its high quality design and overall versatility!
IXBT editors begin their N4100+ review with some product feature highlights: “Today we have the Thecus network attached storage of 4 SATA bays. We can easily refer it to the high device level for SOHO. The usage of 4-bay device can support the maximum capacity of 4 TB if you don't need the reliability and the capacity of 3 TB if you use RAID5. The device has 2 Gigabit ports to connect the local network, which configurations will be described further. Besides supporting all modern protocols, which let to work comfortable in Windows Networks (including AD support), Apple, Linux and Internet, the devices have additional different functions, such as multimedia server, print server and download manager.”
Assembling the N4100+ is a breeze: “The assembling doesn't bring any problems. One should first assemble complete frames to discs. Then connect the storage up to the power and the PC's network. The device is in process of downloading about a minute.”
The IXBT verdict: “As we pointed at the beginning of the article, one can easily create the network attached storage with maximum capacity and higher reliability using the 4-bay storage device. In spite of not so high speed characteristics, a big number of functions, including DLNA-server, can attract its customers. One shouldn't forget about high-quality design and sufficiently still work, what is very important for home users. Some enthusiasts can be interested in Thecus in its numerous and active Internet community, which can transform the NAS into unique multifunctional device.”
