03/14/2011 – Thecus has released a tantalizing new line of NAS including powerful home, family media center, fully featured SMB, and small enterprise NAS. iTrends decided to preview the new line for users to get an early first look.
With an incidentally provocative name, Thecus introduces its new product line: “A little over a week ago, Thecus began advertise their entire new line of NAS servers to the market and this has gotten a little "naughty" name.”
So what does it mean?: “The XXX stands for 3 very important tenets of the storage world [Xtreme performance, Xtreme function, and Xtreme value], in their latest generation covering everything from 2-bay to their big 8-bay NAS solutions.”
The home power-user embodiment of Thecus's new XXX line has impressive stats: "This 2-bay NAS solution features a powerful ATOM D525 1.83GHz processor and now runs with 1GB of DDR3 RAM, which will help to pull the service over 90MB/s on a good network."
The N2200XXX can be used as a DAS as well as a traditional NAS: “This is combined with the classic features that Thecus has on their NAS servers and so it can also be used as a DAS server, a name we came across a short time ago when we tested one such solution (Thecus's D0204).”
