09/30/2016 – Com! Magazin is one of the leading German media in the IT industry. Reporting on the latest hardware, software and infrastructure on the market, they seek to aid decision making process in the ever evolving ITC world. This time, the team reviewed Thecus' 5-bay NAS, the N5810PRO.
The N5810PRO has been built for powerful performance, equipped with the Intel J1900 quad-core processor and five Gigabit Ethernet ports. “If you connect the LAN connections together via link aggregation, the system could reach over 500 MB/s data throughput in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 or 10. The transfer rates in our test were up to 118.4 MB/s, which is close to the interface limit.”
The N5810PRO stands unique in the market with its contingency power supply. “An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is usually available separately with network storage often with a surcharge. Not so with the Thecus N5810PRO. The lithium-ion battery is built-in, which allows the administrator to safely control shut down during a power failure.”
This Thecus NAS allows for a multitude of different ways to safely secure a business’ essential data. “The N5810PRO supports remote replication in real time and a cloud backup to Amazon S3, Dropbox and ElephantDrive. With BTRFS being used as an internal file system, it allows point-in-time snapshots of the data. Acronis True Image is also bundled in to handle backups of client data to the NAS.”
“The NAS also provides enterprise capabilities delivering features such as iSCSI thin provisioning, VPN server, online RAID migration and support for common virtualization technologies from VMware, Citrix and Microsoft […]The NAS with its functionality convincingly satisfies the needs for the SME segment.”
