03/21/2016 - One of the biggest and well-respected PC magazines in the USA, MaximumPC, has taken an extensive and close look at the Thecus N5810PRO. Their introduction speaks for itself: “It's a five-bay storage solution that was released last summer, built for small- to medium-sized businesses, and is packed with its own built-in mini-UPS and a quad-core Intel Celeron J1900 processor.”
But it's not just the integrated UPS which provides fallback in case of a power outage for added data integrity or the five Gigabit Ethernet ports that caught the eye of MaximumPC. “One of the big selling points of the Thecus NAS is its VPN support. The device provides both a client and a server; the former merely requires the user to input a VPN Server IP address, a username, and a password. The VPN Server feature offers plenty of settings to tinker with, such as choosing which Ethernet port to use, and enabling an L2TP/IPSec VPN server.”
Even after looking at many, many features of the N5810PRO, MaximumPC couldn't get through all of them. “Ultimately, there's a lot going on with the Thecus N5810PRO NAS device, more than can be covered in this review.”
According to MaximumPC, the Thecus N5810PRO is “a robust product for small- to midsize businesses”. The NAS scored 85 of 100 points and is classified as a “great product with good features” by the renowned magazine. “The N5810PRO is unquestionably feature-rich and should meet the needs of its target audience.”
Thanks to Kevin and the rest of the team at MaximumPC for the review.
