02/16/2016 - As the most popular IT online magazine in Hungary, Prohardver, provides the latest news and reviews to their readers. NAS solutions are becoming more and more popular for both home users and small companies and Prohardver´s team did not miss the chance to show a Windows based NAS: the Thecus W2000+. Let´s take a closer look at their feedback.
Windows Storage Server NAS
Thecus has created the World´s first NAS powered by the comprehensive Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials. This friendly OS looks like the rest of Windows devices and it matches perfectly in offices with Windows environment. A similar Windows license costs around 500USD, but the W2000+ includes the license and a 60GB SSD to contain the OS. “The Thecus W2000+ seems more expensive than other 2-bays Linux NAS but when you notice that it includes the license, the story is totally different. Apart from that it includes a SSD and 4GB of RAM (instead of 2GB like in the previous model.)”
A Box full of features
The possibilities of using a Windows NAS are incredible comparing with a Linux NAS. Apart from features like Cloud services (Office 365 or Azure Cloud), Data Deduplication or Active Directory you can find an infinite list of apps to download into your NAS. “You're using a Windows system, this includes not only the most necessary basic elements such as the Control Panel, Notepad, Paint and so on. This means user can install any x86-based program, for example, peer-to-peer client, media player, games, etc.”
