New needs for universities
The new era of technology brings many challenges for universities and research centers such as higher demand for storage space and the need for security and backup of data. In addition, new devices like computers, tablets or smartphone come with the necessity of centralize the information. The research groups of the Telecommunications Engineers department in the University of Valladolid work in three different lines, although interrelated: research, teaching and management. This means we have to be able to access to our file system everywhere and at anytime. In addition to this, teachers and researchers working teams must have to space to share documents (articles, proposals...) easily.
The N12000PRO is a 12-bay rackmount that possesses a storage capacity of 96 TB. This empowers us with the ability to backup our large database critical data. At the same time, this allows teachers and researchers to easily access assigned files. I have to say that the performance for both writing and reading operations has been great.
Another essential feature is virtualization. In research, we work with different servers to perform simulations that projects require. By using the Thecus N12000PRO, we are able to have a single "virtual disk" when accessing all servers together so that the data generated is available from each of them. This feature allows them to launch simulations on different servers easily and makes the process makes data collection and analysis much simpler.
Managing several devices at the same time was very complex before we got the Thecus N12000PRO. Now, we can easily centralize all those devices and periodically backup all the data onto the NAS. Accessing and sharing data has never been easier.
How can a NAS empower universities?
Here are some key advantages of using a Thecus NAS in a university setting:
NAS servers create a central hub and acts as a backup server for critical data
Massive Storage Space. Up to 96TB.
Data is accessible anywhere in the world over the internet as long as your NAS connected. Every investigation team can easily share and access data.
Redundant power supply
Thank you to Dr. Ramón J. Durán Barroso and the University of Valladolid for the case study.
Thank you Qloudea for recommending the best storage solution to UVa.
