08/05/2015- c't magazine of the media group Heise belongs to one of the biggest and most important IT media in Germany. In their newest edition, c't 17/15, the experts take a closer look at the new N5810PRO, which comes with an integrated UPS.
Thecus is always looking to sport their NAS with the best hardware available. “The hardware stands out: a Quad-Core-Celeron J1900 with 2 GHz and 4GB RAM support data transfers between drives and network clients and optional link aggregation for increasing LAN throughput.” Furthermore, the N5810PRO comes with all the necessary protocols (SMB/CIFS, FTP(S), AFP/TimeMachine, Webdav(s), NFS, TFTP) and it is perfectly suitable as a home media center. When installing the add-on Kodi 14.2, the device can also act via its HDMI-output as a full HD media player.”
As a special highlight this NAS is the only one of its kind that is equipped with an integrated UPS. “The NAS will shut down automatically after 5 minutes. During our testing with 3 drives installed the battery lasted for two consecutive failures. If power is lost the device will provide an audio alert, syslog notification and, if configured, via e-mails.”
“The N5810PRO is very suitable network storage device for smaller businesses and work groups because it saves the otherwise necessary, separate UPS.”
