10/09/2014- Before You Buy is a product reviews show from California where tech experts get together to test out the latest gadgets to help consumers make wise buying decisions. As they say, “Make sure you watch... Before You Buy!”
Moving from a general introduction of NAS (“A computer without a keyboard, mouse, or monitor; you attach it to your network, and use it for all the computers on your network to back up, to store media files”), Before You Buy quickly dived into the features offered by the 2-bay Thecus N2310.
First, the form factor:
“Two things you get with multi-drive NAS storage, of course, is capacity, as well as redundancy.”
Second, the USB Copy button:
“That's kind of interesting. I can take an existing USB drive, hook it up, press the button, and it will copy it.”
“Without a computer?”
“Right, which is pretty neat.”
Third, and something they found particularly impressive, was the free inclusion of a DDNS service that allows for consistent remote access:
“That's nice, because really, this is a commodity category where most NAS drives have the same basic functionality. It's those little extra things that make one better than the other, and I like that.”
And last but not least, the unbeatable value:
“The biggest thing also on this is the price.”
“That's a great price!”
“That's a really good price for a NAS.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly then, Before You Buy finished their review of the Thecus N2310 with the following advice for shoppers:
“For the Thecus N2310… I'm going to give this a ‘Buy'. I liked it.”
Thanks to Leo Laporte, Chad Johnson, and everyone at Before You Buy for the review.
