11/20/2009 – Around the world, users are falling in love with the new N7700 NAS Device from Thecus® Technology. Featuring massive storage capacity, robust features, and easy expandability, it's not hard to see why. In their October 2009 issue, iThome Magazine tested the N7700, and at the end of it all was extremely impressed with what this seven-bay monster can do!
iThome Magazine kicks things off with an introduction to the N7700: "Thecus' N7700 is a seven bay desktop NAS, which provides seven 3.5" hard disk slots with hot swapping, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports that can support 802.3ad, load aggregation, failover, and balancing. Aside from basic storage server functionality, it also includes a print server, photo web server, media server, iTunes server, digital surveillance server, and more. Thecus also has a model named the N7700SAS that also supports SAS hard disks. ”
The N7700 comes packed with features: "In addition to easy expansion, many of the basic features of the N5200 have been retained in the N7700, including hot swappable hard disk bays, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports with failover, and the ability to replicate all data to another N7700 using the Nsync feature. Administrators first setting up the RAID array can choose the select the ZFS file system and use the snapshot function which can take up to 16 system snapshots. The unit comes with two kinds of backup software - Thecus' backup software and FarStone's DriveClone 5 Pro, which can help the user easily backup their data on their N7700.”
Excellent iSCSI compatibility struck a chord with editors: "Thecus was the first to introduce the iSCSI target feature on a NAS. The company's previous N5200 was also Taiwan's first desktop NAS with the iSCSI function built-in. The N7700 has not only retained the iSCSI target feature from the N5200, but its capabilities have also been upgraded, including the ability to connect other Thecus NAS units through iSCSI initiators, and adds thin provisioning support."
